A Little Early but...Happy Mother's Day

After a wonderful Panoply two weeks ago, oh and a special shout out to the wonderful vendors of Moe's Grill. They had wonderful service and fantastic food that was filled to the brim of the take out boxes.  That with wonderful entertainment including something for the children in the form of Dr. Osborne.  Just a great time all around.

This Sunday we have Mother's Day coming up.  Right now the team is running full speed ahead and wanted to send out a Happy Mother's Day to everyone if there wasn't time later.

Everyone have a safe and wonderful Mother's Day and enjoy time with the family.

Painting Dark Colors on Your Walls, Does it Matter?

Easy answer...of course it matters. Depending on what colors you use and in what location, you could have an entirely different feel and sight than you started with, for better or worse.

Now we've seen interior decorators pump up the volume on using more bold colors in different rooms. More Red, More Blue, More Forest Green.  Some of them don't go into detail of how or the whys, just that it goes with particular woods, or furniture looks.  But we'll leave their whys and hows to the decorators themselves. Let's talk about color and location.

There's nothing wrong with bold sweeping colors. Want your Reds, Blues, Purples? That's great, but the deep colors can't stand alone. They need help.  In some larger rooms, these colors may be able to pull it off.  Remember though these dark colors can make a room smaller if there is not enough light to accompany them.  When there is lots of light, these dark colors can glow beautifully. However, in unlit rooms, these dark walls can shrink a room even more so with lots of furniture. There are many times where you have a 10 X 10 bedroom that has been cut down to feeling  4 X 4 with a dark complexion, one window, and a small reading lamp.  If this is a preference then that's great, enjoy what you feel works best for you.  If you choose to use dark colors, let make them come to life and really grab family, friends, and guests and make them go WOW!

A Great Example of deep colors with great lighting making the colors pop out.

A Grand Example of those deep purples enhanced by more light.

Top Rankings, Health, & New Firehouse

Several news stories came in the past few days...

In the latest Census estimate Huntsville Metro Area added the most people in the state, while the Auburn-Opelika and Daphne-Fairhope-Foley Metro were two of the fastest growing Metros in the nation by percentage. Expanded Article from AL.com.

County Health Rankings recently released the healthiest counties in Alabama with Madison County coming in on the Top 5 in both areas of Health Outcomes and Health Factors. Limestone County also came in the Top 5 in the Health Outcomes Ranking. Click on the county in the report to get more detailed findings and then click on the graphs for yearly reporting graphs.

Last night, the Huntsville City Council voted to build a new Fire Station in Hampton Cove on Old Big Cove Road. For more information on the Fire Station, here is the expanded article from AL.com. Matheny Goldmon Architects did a wonderful job with the look of the new station. It should make a fine addition to the city.

Almost Spring and Local Events are Starting

Almost being the keyword, Spring is scheduled to start on March 20th. So we are two days away from that and possibly a few more weeks before we get the constant Spring warmth that feels familiar. As you may have guessed the weather seems to be in flux reaching into the 70s before crashing back into the 40s. Right now after this Winter, the 70s really have a good feel to them.

As every spring, The NEACA Spring Craft Show begins Friday and lasts through Sunday at the VBC South Hall. Never know what the vendors will have so go check them out.

Also next weekend on the 29th, will once again be the ACES Family Farm and Fleece Expo at the Alabama A&M Agribition Center on Moores Mill Road. We had a lot of fun last year, so this year we're inviting more people to attend.

Something else to note for the kids, thanks to Amy Jones of Our Valley Events: Williams-Sonoma has junior chef classes for kids regularly. The most recent dates for junior chef are 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, and 4/26. They even have technique classes for adults. Here's a list of events.
