The Huntsville Madison County Convention and Visitor Center Bureau has also proclaimed October “Huntsville History Month”. This makes excellent sense as the month of October showcases Huntsville’s variety of events and gatherings. Below is a sample of the many that are planned for October. Huntsville Alabama Christmas 2017

The Huntsville Christmas Parade is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5th at 6PM. More information can be found here at Huntsville.org.

WhistleStop 2017

WhistleStop 2017 is this weekend Friday May 5th - Saturday May 6th. Filled with great BBQ and fantastic music this years event looks to be filled with fun with sunny weather. Headlining the music entertainment: Ginblossoms, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Rembrandts, as well as several great local bands. Panoply & WhisteStop 2016 coming up

Just letting you know ahead of time that Panoply & WhistleStop Festivals are coming up soon. Wonderful arts celebration known as Panoply will be starting April 29th and last from Friday through Sunday. On May 6-7th (Friday & Saturday), the WhistleStop Festival will be going on at the Historic Huntsville Depot. Music and Food awaits. Almost Spring and Local Events are Starting

Almost being the keyword, Spring is scheduled to start on March 20th. So we are two days away from that and possibly a few more weeks before we get the constant Spring warmth that feels familiar. As you may have guessed the weather seems to be in flux reaching into the 70s before crashing back into the 40s. Right now after this Winter, the 70s really have a good feel to them.

As every spring, The NEACA Spring Craft Show begins Friday and lasts through Sunday at the VBC South Hall. Never know what the vendors will have so go check them out.

Also next weekend on the 29th, will once again be the ACES Family Farm and Fleece Expo at the Alabama A&M Agribition Center on Moores Mill Road. We had a lot of fun last year, so this year we're inviting more people to attend.

Something else to note for the kids, thanks to Amy Jones of Our Valley Events: Williams-Sonoma has junior chef classes for kids regularly. The most recent dates for junior chef are 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, and 4/26. They even have technique classes for adults. Here's a list of events.

Building Home & Remodeling Show this weekend

That's right the Building Home & Remodeling Show is this weekend, running from today 3/7 - 3/9 with gates opening at 1pm today in the South Hall. It is hosted by the Huntsville Madison County Builders Association.

Admission to the event is $8 for Adults, $6 for Senior Citizens, and Free for children 12 and under.

There will be many Exhibits and Sponsors for this event with additional seminars at set times throughout the weekend. There are coupons, offers, and even a discount at the Building Home & Remodeling Show website. There may also be a coupon on the site available for $1 off admission, as of 9.47am today (3/7/14), the coupon is still there.

So go for the hints, tips, and education as well as greet new companies to help your home and landscape look the best.

The Nook & UAH Hockey

Two quick stories for today...

The Nook was named as one of the top 100 bars in the country and the only Alabama bar to be named to the list. Big congratulations on them for making the cut.  For the full article on AL.com.  Or for the full list of bars.

This weekend UAH Ice Hockey will be taking on University of Alaska-Anchorage in military appreciation weekend.  Game times are 1/17/14 Fri & 1/18/14 Sat 7PM @ VBC Arena.  Veterans & Kids under 12 get free admission.

A Few Huntsville Summer Events as of 7/18/13

There's a few great summer events going on...so pick what you want to do and go!

Historic Huntsville Foundation is back with Movies In The Park on three Friday's this summer 7/26, 8/9, and 8/23 in which they will be showing E.T., To Kill a Mockingbird, and Back to the Future.  There was a vote on 6/20 at the Sidewalk Arts Stroll to pick the movies.  The movies begin at sundown in Big Spring Park behind the Huntsville Museum of Arts.

The Huntsville Ghost Walk is still going on.  On Saturdays at 6pm leaving from Harrison Hardware Store in Downtown Huntsville.

The Madison City Farmer's Market is on Saturday 7/20 in the morning from 8-12 beside Discovery Middle School located at 1282 Hughes Rd, Madison.

US Space & Rocket Center Armed Services week providing free admission to military families. 7/21-7/27, 9am-5pm.

Concerts in the Parks has the US Army Materiel Command Band on 7/22, 6:30-8pm at Big Spring Park.

US Army Soldier Show is on 7/23-7/27 at 7pm at the VBC Concert Hall.

Tomorrow 6/21/13 is the First Day of Summer...Huntsville events, road funds, and new entertainment districts

With the first day of summer looming around the corner what is everyone up to.  Seems like there are vacations about to go on or are being planned.  Everyone is getting involved in activities and volunteer groups on one thing or another, or people are taking more of an opportunity to go out more with families and friends.

Our local visitors center has put together more upcoming events.

In other news: One of our team members spotted Mayor Battle on the corner of Byrd Spring and South Memorial Parkway when he was discussing the deferred road funds for Byrd Spring & Lily Flagg.  And with the new open container legislation that has passed the city is putting out more information on the entertainment districts known as Quigley and Meridian.


Today's Tidbit: Remember rule of safety for summer, keep drinking even if you don't feel thirsty.  Dehydration can still hit you when its humid out and doesn't feel as hot.

This Weekend's Events: Panoply & Spring Tour of Homes

This weekend it looks like we have two events colliding.  On Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Apr 26-28) we have Panoply Arts Festival.  For this weekend and next weekend, the Madison County Builders Association is holding the Spring Tour of Homes.

Panoply is always an interesting experience, you'll never know what or who you'll see.  The music you hear, the dancing, and the delicious food.  Two of AL.com's contributors, Matt Wake & Pat Ammons have put together guides to help find food and events.  Additional Panoply information is also available, and additional AL.com coverage.

The Madison County Builders Association's Spring Tour of Homes is a wonderful showcase.  This year there are 82 properties on the list that are available for viewing 1-5PM Sat & Sun Apr 26-18, and May 4-5th. Information can be found at the Spring Tour of Homes website, as well as locations on their East Map, and West Map.  With the Tour showcasing its best, go ahead and take a look.  And if you see any that interest you don't forget to call us!  After all, when buying a new home rule #1 don't forget to bring your realtor!

Madison School Rezoning, Local Events, and Inside Plants

Today's post is not big by any means.  We're just going to talk about Madison Elementary Schools rezoned for next year.  Weekend events on tap.  And Inside Plants.  The last two topic were posts by one local Huntsville native and one by a national real estate website.

Yesterday, the Madison City Alabama school board 5-0 unanimously passed the new elementary school rezoning proposal.  This elementary school map is what the board approved of.  I have linked to it.  It is in PDF format so you will be able to zoom in for a closer look.  This will be for the school year beginning fall 2013-2014.  Its not the best looking organized creature, but it is what it is.  On the Madison City Schools website there is also information about waivers in specific cases.

Maria Salova wrote an article on Homes.com about inside plants for homes and apartments.  The article is both informative and intriguing as it shows ways to add style to simple plants.

Today's Tidbit:  The weather is supposed to be fantastic this weekend, mid 70s.  This is a perfect opportunity to get things done.  Normally we don't get beautiful back to back days without something interfering with it.  Either we get rain somewhere in between, or a controlled burn to our West which then blows over the city ( like the last great weekend ).  Let's hope we have a great weekend!
