News and more news 4/17/19

The most recent news comes out of US News and the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

US News has compiled their most recent data and Huntsville has made the list again. This time Huntsville soared to the top in Most Affordable City for Housing, Best Place to Live in Alabama, and Best Place to Live in the Deep South. US News has also said that Huntsville is the 11th Best Place to Live in the US. AL.com has more information as well.

At the University of Alabama-Huntsville, new plans were unveiled for the future of the university. The 58 acres the university purchased across Sparkman Drive from the university in 2017 now has purpose with the plans President Altenkirch has laid out. Included in the plans are shopping, eateries and the new crown jewel, a multipurpose facility for the ice hockey and basketball athletic teams.  According to the article the plans have the full support of the new incoming president, Darren Dawson. The plans will be voted on by the Univ. of Alabama Board of Trustees in June.

Huntsville in Top 5 of New Tech List - 3/8/19

Just a quick post today about a new list that came out. Huntsville has always been great about showing off its accolades. This time the list comes from 24/7 Wallst.  The list is called 15 Cities with the Most High Tech Jobs. 

5. Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina
4. Boulder, Colorado
3. Huntsville, Alabama
2. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California
1. California-Lexington Park, Maryland

This is an amazing list for Huntsville to showcase its high tech status among its peers.

Huntsville makes #10 on Tech List

Early this morning CompTIA put out a study of the top 20 Tech Towns for 2018. Huntsville put in a strong enough performance to land it at #10. The study cited Huntsville's low cost of living and getting the most out of your money with its tech opportunities. Other cities that made the list also include Raleigh, Austin, Boulder, San Francisco, San Jose, Dallas, and Durham/Chapel Hill (known for Research Triangle Park). Two new rankings for Huntsville have come out: STEM, Diversity

Two new rankings have come out and both have Huntsville either at or near the top.

In 2018, Livability has ranked Huntsville #1 for STEM workers. The article can be found on Livability.com's website.

Also just out yesterday from Niche.com was the ranking of most diverse cities in Alabama regardless of population size. Huntsville came in at #5.

Also in Huntsville news, Facebook is coming to town with a new data center. This will be a 750 Million dollar facility and employ 100 workers.  Also the Curio by Hilton will be coming to Jefferson Street downtown. It will be a 30 Million dollar hotel with 100 rooms.

Niche releases new list - Best Alabama ZIP codes to live in

The online list creator Niche, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has put together a new list for 2018. Best Alabama ZIP codes to live in.

Their list gives the top 25 on the page. It should be noted that 6 out of the top 10 are in Madison County. #1 is 35758, Madison. #2 is 35802 South Huntsville. And #3 is 36830 in the Auburn area. This is an amazing achievement to show the quality of life in the Madison County area. Read through the list yourself and then see how they came up with their numbers.

Best Destination in Alabama for Nature Lovers - Expedia 2017

Expedia recently released a list of best destinations in every state for nature lovers. For Alabama, Huntsville made the top of the list again. This time for the Huntsville Botanical Gardens, and Wade Mountain Nature Preserve & Green Mountain Nature Trails. The list for all the states can be found at this Expedia Link.

Huntsville named on Best Mid-sized Cities to Move to Make a Living



Once again, Huntsville has landed on a Best Of list. This time the list is Best Mid-sized Cities to Move to Make a Living. This list was put out by MoneyGeek.com. This list places Huntsville at #3. Also included on the list: #8 Cincinnati, #10 Raleigh, and #13 Minneapolis. Their rankings for Mid Sized cities includes some cities outside of the normal Census Bureau's definition for Mid Sized, which is less than 250,000 people. With these Best of lists, Huntsville continues to affirm is place as a wonderful place to live.

Also just in this afternoon, Huntsville has been named by NerdWallet the top place for STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) grads. Beating out other top 5 entrants, San Jose, Boulder, Chapel Hill, & Seattle.
