Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Annual Cotton Row Race. This year was its 40th run. This longstanding tradition has become one of the premier races in the Southeast US. More info on the race can be found at WHNT.
Huntsville's Athletic Club Alabama has been selected to host the United States Tennis Association Girls 16 Clay Court Tennis National Championship for two years. This will bring female tennis stars from across the United States to Huntsville.
The Constellation development off of Heart of Huntsville Drive in Downtown Huntsville has been given the green light by the Huntsville City Council. The 12 acre development will be a mixed use space consisting of apartments, retail, office space, and restaurants.

The most recent news comes out of US News and the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
US News has compiled their most recent data and Huntsville has made the list again. This time Huntsville soared to the top in Most Affordable City for Housing, Best Place to Live in Alabama, and Best Place to Live in the Deep South. US News has also said that Huntsville is the 11th Best Place to Live in the US. AL.com has more information as well.
At the University of Alabama-Huntsville, new plans were unveiled for the future of the university. The 58 acres the university purchased across Sparkman Drive from the university in 2017 now has purpose with the plans President Altenkirch has laid out. Included in the plans are shopping, eateries and the new crown jewel, a multipurpose facility for the ice hockey and basketball athletic teams. According to the article the plans have the full support of the new incoming president, Darren Dawson. The plans will be voted on by the Univ. of Alabama Board of Trustees in June.

Huntsville makes NY Times list - Best places to go in 2019
Huntsville made another list. This time, it was the New York Times list (AL.com article) of 52 Places to go in 2019. Number 22 on the list, Huntsville has an amazing year planned. There are two major events on the calendar. It will be the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing which both the US Space and Rocket Center & Marshall Space Flight Center will be celebrating. Huntsville will also be joining in the rest of the state in celebrating the 200th anniversary of Alabama becoming a state. Huntsville makes #10 on Tech List
Early this morning CompTIA put out a study of the top 20 Tech Towns for 2018. Huntsville put in a strong enough performance to land it at #10. The study cited Huntsville's low cost of living and getting the most out of your money with its tech opportunities. Other cities that made the list also include Raleigh, Austin, Boulder, San Francisco, San Jose, Dallas, and Durham/Chapel Hill (known for Research Triangle Park). Huntsville makes Best Christmas Towns in the US
Not normally two words associated together, Christmas and Huntsville. Huntsville does not reach the inches of snow that blanket other northern cities over the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years. It is nice for the city to be on the list of Best Christmas Towns in the US. This list was put together by thelocaltourist.com. This list is more than a simple sentence, it gives a good quick write up on why its on the list. You will not only read why Huntsville is on the list, but other cities as well such as Taos, NM and San Juan, PR. Its a fun read for the upcoming season.

The Huntsville Ghost Walk is back for its 10th year. While fun and entertaining, the Huntsville Ghost Walk is an ongoing research project about Huntsville's history and its citizens. If you have an interest in local history, these walking tours are a definite must.

The Brady Bunch House is on the market
According to the Entertainment Weekly article, the Brady Bunch House is located in Studio City, California and has been put on the market for just over $1.8M. While the three bedroom, three bath home looks nothing like the inside of the tv show house, it appears people still want the home for their own. Huntsville Havoc win SPHL Championship
Congratulations to the Huntsville Havoc for winning the 2018 SPHL Championship over the Peoria Rivermen in the Championship Final. Huntsville won two games out of the three with both wins coming at Peoria. This is the Havoc's second championship in the SPHL.
Today, May 1st, 2018 starting at 5.30-8PM, the Havoc will be having a victory celebration outside the Propst Arean at the Von Braun Center.

Niche releases new list - Best Alabama ZIP codes to live in
The online list creator Niche, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has put together a new list for 2018. Best Alabama ZIP codes to live in.
Their list gives the top 25 on the page. It should be noted that 6 out of the top 10 are in Madison County. #1 is 35758, Madison. #2 is 35802 South Huntsville. And #3 is 36830 in the Auburn area. This is an amazing achievement to show the quality of life in the Madison County area. Read through the list yourself and then see how they came up with their numbers.

Site Study Recommends Location for New City Hall for Huntsville
Goodwyn Mills Cawood, the archietctural and engineering firm Huntsville has contracted to do the city hall site study has released their final report. GMC's recommended the Fountain Circle and Gates Ave location out of the three initially selected sites. The other two locations considered: current city hall location and the parking garage on Clinton Ave across from Huntsville Utilities.

Huntsville lands 1.6 Billion Dollar Toyota/Mazda Plant

Baseball coming back to Huntsville Metro Area?
If all the articles are to be believed, yes a minor league baseball team could be moving in during the 2019 season. Its new location by all reports is in Madison at Town Madison. Additional information can be found at AL.com and WAFF. Both have been reporting on the ongoing sale of the Mobile Bay Bears to new ownership. The Huntsville metro area has not had a baseball team since the 2014 season when the Huntsville Stars moved to Biloxi and became the Biloxi Shuckers.

Reminder - Eclipse a few days away
Just a quick reminder that the Eclipse is only a few days away. It will be on Monday August 21st. Jason Simpson and Ben Smith of WHNT say that "Partial solar eclipse begins approximately at 12pm, peaks shortly before 1:30pm, and ends approximately at 3pm. " Local time. Remember NOT to look directly into the sun as it may cause permanent eye injuries.

Niche.com released their top 15 ZIP Codes of Alabama for 2017. Eight of their top 15 were in Madison County. AL.com has done their own article about it. Information that Niche used has come from the Census, FBI, and CDC to name a few. ZIP Codes include 35801, 35802, 35803, 35756, 35758, 35824, 35806, and 35763.
